Brief Introduction of JS171

　　JS171,founded in 1985, is an engineering-oriented institute under the jurisdiction of the Jiangsu Provincial Government. The institute is located at the foot of Huaguo Mountain in the city of Lianyungang, the Eastern Bridgehead of the New Eurasian Landbridge and has a pleasant climate and quite, charming surroundings.
　　The campus covers an area of 123 hectares and the buildings , with good layout and modern structures, cover a floor area of 370,000 square meters. The institute has good facilities for both teaching and research. There are 88 laboratories in 6 experiment centers, all equipped with advanced facilities and apparatus, six audiovisual centers, twenty-three modern multimedia classrooms, an institute-wide Academic Computing Network Station and one mechanical factory. Beside this, the institute has 17 off-campus practical training centers, and 24 hectares fields used for aquaculture. The library, with a floor area of 21,000 square meters, has a collection of more than, 660,000 volumes of books as well as over 1,400 kinds of periodical and newspapers in both Chinese and foreign languages.
　　The institute consists of 3 schools and 13 departments. They are the School of Marine Technology and Aquiculture, School of Donggang , the School of Adult Education, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering, Food Science and Engineering, Economics and Management, Mathematics and Science, Chinese Language and Literature, Foreign Languages, Social Science, Physical Education and Adult Education. The Institute is running 30 undergraduate programs, namely, Mechanical Design and Manufacture, Civil Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Food Science and Engineering, Industrial and Commercial Management, Material Chemistry, Accounting Law, Chinese Language and literature, English, Japanese, Marine Engineering, Computer Science and Technology and Aquiculture, etc. In addition, 24 three-year certificate programs are offered, which includes the Technology of Architecture Decoration, Computer Application and Maintenance, Computer Software, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, Foreign Language Secretary and so on.
　　The institute has a full-time staff of 1,380 people. Of the Institute’s 691 academic staff, 225 are professors and associate professor. Full of life and the spirit of dedication, these teachers are highly qualified for both teaching and scientific research. In addition, a number of distinguished scientists and experts have become off-campus professors, who have assisted towards the further development of JS171 academically.
　　At present, there are 15,000 full- time students at the institute and our graduates are highly regarded within society giving them excellent employment opportunities.
　　JS171 is active in international exchanges and cooperation. Every year, the institute sends both senior and young teachers abroad for further studies or to attend important international academic activities. Furthermore, the foreign experts are frequently invited here to give lectures or to teach. JS171 has established cooperation relationships between Eastern Institute of Technology, New Zealand, Daebul University, Korea, etc.
