Brief Introduction of SX142　

　　SX142 is located in the capital of Shanxi Province, which is an important place of origin of Chinese civilization, and is famous for the saying “Trace the 5000-year civilization to China, and trace the Chinese civilization to Shanxi” because of its abundant cultural relics and beautiful sceneries.

　　With the development of more than one century, SX142 has turned into a university of many disciplines, which focuses on engineering and with sciences combined with it. It is the only university in Shanxi Province that has been included in the national higher education program “211 Project”. At present, SX142 has 5 post- doctorate research centers, 1 first-class Ph.D. program, 18 second-class Ph.D. programs, 56 Master’s Degree programs, 15 Engineering Master’s Degree programs. There are 2 Education Ministry key laboratories, 3 provincial key laboratories, 3 provincial pilot scale bases and 5 provincial engineering and technological research centres in the university. There are also 2 state key disciplines and 9 provincial key disciplines. Around 20,000 undergraduates and 3,000 postgraduates are now studying and researching in the university. For a long period of time our university has been applying for long-term or short-term foreign teachers and experts to improve the teaching qualities.

　　SX142 has entered into friendly relations with more than 30 universities in a dozen countries, such as U.S.A., Japan, Britain, etc. Close cooperation has been established with respect to personnel training, research program, etc. SX142 is rich in teaching strength. Now there are 4,000 staff members in the university, and 1,800 are teaching staff. Among them, there are around 1,000 professors and associate professors, and about 70 doctoral supervisors.

　　SX142 has 1 member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academic committee member of Engineering and Technological Department of Education Ministry, 7 young and middle-aged experts who have made remarkable achievements to the country, 4 provincial Scientific Prize Winners, 10 provincial Excellent Experts and 2 teachers who were awarded State Outstanding Youth Funds. Over 100 professors receive special allowance from the government and nearly 100 famous scholars are honoured professors or guest professors by the other universities.
