Founded in 1906, This University is a strategic university in China. As one of the top Agricultural Universities selected for the “211 Project” (4th), This University receives further funding from the Chinese government to establish the 21st century best Chinese universities.
This University is located in Ya’an city, about 120 km west of Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province. The two cities are connected by a new expressway, which cuts the travel time from Ya’an to Chengdu to an hour and a half. Ya’an is the home of the Giant pandas, and is well known for its beautiful natural setting in the mountains. Surrounded by tea plantations, Ya’an is the birthplace of the tea culture and marks the beginning of one of the main roads of the famous Tea and Horse Caravan. Ya’an is a pivotal point to many famous scenery spots such as the Hailuogou Glacier Forest Park, Luding Bridge and Kangding etc.
The university has a complete educational system involving common higher education, postgraduate education, advanced vocational technology education, adult education and modern distant education, and governs 12 colleges, one postgraduate school, 4 research institutes and 1 branch school (in Dujiangyan city). This University covers a total area of 300 hectares. It owns over 700,000 volumes of books in its library.
Today, the university has over 26,000 students (doctors, masters and undergraduates). There are 1600 staff members and over 490 of them are full or associate professors. This University also has two academician of the Chinese Institute of Engineering.
The university, one of the first 200 universities entitled to receive overseas students, is active in international academic exchanges with over 30 universities and research institutes from America, Canada, Germany, Holland, Russia, Thailand and Japan, etc. Since the reform and opening to the outside world, over 1,200 foreign experts have come to do research work and give lectures at This University.

The university employs a team of English speakers to teach English to graduate and undergraduate students. Candidates with Bachelors degrees in fields like English, history, or agriculture, and with experience teaching English language and literature would be competitive. Candidates should be in good health. Each teacher is responsible for 14-16 class hours per week.
This University provides each teacher with a private well-furnished and air-conditioned apartment with a bedroom, a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen. The monthly basic salary is in the range of 4500-5500 RMB, depending on the teacher’s highest academic degree (from bachelors degree to doctorate degree), of which 70% can be exchanged into a foreign currency (U.S. dollars, Euros or British Pounds for instance). In addition, each teacher is granted a 2200 RMB travel allowance. For a one- year contract, the university provides 10,000 RMB for one round trip international air ticket.

100 Chinese universities have been initially nominated as the key higher education institutions of the 211 Project.
The 211 Project is the largest higher education reform project supported by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance and the Sate Development Planning Commission since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
The nominated key universities will be equipped with modern teaching facilities and research programs to meet the needs of economic and social development in the 21st century.
A Brief Introcduction to the This University
This University is a key university of “211” project construction with prominence of bio-technology and agricultural sciences, majored in physical science, engineering, economics, management and education, located in Yaan city which is characterized by lovely scenery and pleasant weather. Its former body was Sichuan Tong Sheng Agricultural school established in 1906, subordinated to National Sichuan University in 1935. It was moved to Yaan city from Chengdu and Sichuan Agricultural College was founded independently in 1956, and renamed as This University in 1985.
The university has a complete educational system involving common higher education, postgraduate education, advanced vocational technology education, adult education and modern distant education, and governs 11 colleges, 4 research institutes and 1 branch school (in Dujiangyan city). The university possesses 2 state key disciplines. 7 ministerial and provincial key disciplines, 2 post-doctoral programs, 2 professor-ship posts for specially engaged Changjiang scholars, 2 first-rank specialized disciplines with the power to award doctor degree, 9 specialized disciplines with the power to award doctor degree, 25 specialized disciplines with the power to award master degree, 36 specialized disciplines for undergraduates. The number of students studying now (doctors, masters and undergraduates) is over 18,000. There are 1600 members of the staff, 80 professors, 230 associate professors, two academician of the Chinese Institute of Engineering, 5 state advanced specialists, 5 mid-age and young experts with outstanding contribution to the country, 5 1st-level and 2nd-level academic candidates of the state “Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Personnel Project”, 27 provincial supervisors, 11 excellent provincial experts with outstanding contribution, 105 specialists enjoying the subsidy of the state government. It covers about 4000 mu and owns over 700,000 volumes of books in its library.

Two doctoral theses entered the circle of the national excellent doctoral papers. And the university has won over 320 scientific and technological prizes at state-level or at province-and –ministry-level-2 items winning the First Class National Invention Prize, 1 item the Second Class National Scientific Invention prize, 1 item the Second Class National Physical Science Prize, 5 items the National Scientific Advancement Award, 3 items the Special Grade Award of Sichuan Scientific Advancement, 70% of which have been spread and converted into production with social and economic benefit of over 3 billion yuan RMB.
 The university was granted the title of State Advanced Unit of the Party’s Construction and Political Work in 1993, and the title of the Advanced Primary Party Committee by the Organizing Ministry of the Central Committee of the C P C in 2001, and also the state advanced unit for teaching management, postgraduate education, scientific research, foreign affair work, student employment, student employment, student social practice and P E in recent years by the State Educational Ministry. In April 1991 and May 2002 the general sectary of the CPC Jiang Zemin inspected the university, affirming the resulting achievements and placing great hope on its future.

This University, one of the Chinese “211 Project” construction universities (i.e. about 100 key universities on which the Chinese government will support on educational funding in the 21st century), is located in Ya'an city, about 120 km. away from Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province. The two cities are connected by a new national highway. It takes only about 80 minutes to drive from Yaan to Chengdu. Yaan, the hometown of Giant Panda of the world, is well known for its pretty scenery of nature. This University is highly appreciated by foreign teachers on its peaceful and beautiful campus and the friendship and cooperation shown from the staff of Foreign Affairs Office and the university.
This University usually employs three to five native English speakers to teach English language for doctoral and graduate students and undergraduates. Candidates with Bachelors degree in fields like English, History, Agriculture and with teaching experience in English language and literature would be competitive. Candidates should be in good health and flexible. Each employee teaches about 14-16 hours per week.
This University offers each recruited teacher free well-furnished and air-conditioned housing with a bedroom, a sitting room, a bathroom and a kitchen (not sharing with other teachers). The monthly basic salary is in the range of 4,500---5,500 Yuan RMB, depending on the employee's academic degree (ranges from bachelor’s degree to doctor’s degree). 70 percent of the basic payment can be exchanged into US dollars. Each year This University grants each foreign teacher 2,200 Yuan RMB as traveling allowance. For one year’s contract, This University will pay a round trip international air-ticket for the teacher.
