A Brief Introcduction to This Institute

 I. Attribution of This Institute


No.2 Classroom Building

  This Institute was founded in 1984, and is now sponsored by the State Administration of Work Safety. In 1997,This Institute became one of the key institutes of higher learning with the approval of the State Education Commission. Its development goal is to build This Institute into a modern comprehensive institute of higher learning in China. On March 18 2002, the institute was approved to offer four-year degree courses. This Institute is authorized to recruit both foreign teachers and foreign students and is well known for its dedication to internationalization.
II. Location, Transportation and Communication
Located in east Beijing, Yan Jiao Economic and Technological Development Zone is 30 km east of Ti’an-Men Square and 24 km south-east of Beijing International Airport. The No. 930 bus provides convenient transportation between Beijing and Yan Jiao. It takes only 40 minutes from Yan Jiao to downtown Beijing by bus, and no more than 30 minutes by car. This Institute is located in Yan Jiao, with clean air and convenient transportation.

III.The This Institute Scale
This Institute covers an area of 54hectares with a total floor space of over 300 sq.km and educational equipment worth over 40 million RMB. Its library has a collection of over 360,000 volumes. In addition to enough space for teaching and experiments, there are multi-media classrooms, a closed-circuit television teaching system, a foreign language launching stand and six multi-media language labs within campus. This Institute has CAI classrooms, CAD classrooms and a campus computer network and a Chinese Academic Journal in compact disc.

  This Institute has a total of 608 faculty members, with 159 professors and associate professors. The student enrollment is around 8800. A new modern classroom building with a floor space of 26 sq.km and a corresponding building for a students’ hostel are available.
This Institute comprises of the following departments: Safety and Environment Engineering, Mechanical and Electric Engineering, Electronics and Information Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Economy and Trade, Humanities and Social Science, Computer Science and Foreign Languages Department. It also has higher post-training and educational training section.

  The beautiful landscape and quiet environment make the institute an elegant garden designed by Beijing Forestry University. This Institute in 1998 had the honor to win the title of “ One of the Nation’s 400 Excellent Units of Forestation” and a “Civilized Unit among State Organs” and an “ Advanced Unit of Guarding Safety.
V. Living Facilities
This Institute has a well-equipped guesthouse with over 180 beds and apartments and suites for foreign experts. Domestic and overseas experts praise the warm and attentive service. In addition, This Institute has established many entertainment and physical facilities including a multi-function dancing hall, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, and a hard rubberized court and a large playground with a bleacher of 5000 seats.

VI. International Cooperation
This Institute has been drawing the greatest attention to the international exchanges and cooperation esp. in the educational training field. It has three state-level training centres: The first is National Safety Training Center supported by the United Nations Development and Planning Agency who invested $ 1.22 million dollars. Over 40 staff has been sent abroad for study and visits, and over 30 foreign experts were invited to give lectures. It established cooperative relations with relevant agents in the US, the UK, Russia, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Poland and India. The second one is the Sino-Australian Management Training Centre in cooperation with the Australian government, which invested 9.4 million Australian dollars in the program. 53 faculty members visited or were trained in Australia. 8 of them attained MBA degree. 28 Australian experts were involved in the program. The third one is the Chinese Information Center of Vocational Safety and Health supervised by International Labor Organization, which collects and analyses relevant information at home and abroad and for decision-making.

  The institute has established joint venture programs with Capilano College of Canada, Western Institute of Technology of New Zealand and Kyongbuk College of Science of Korea. It also has “Certificate for Inviting Foreign Experts ” and “Certificate for Taking in Foreign Students”. This year we invited 6 foreign teachers from Australia, America and Canada and recruited 101 students from Vietnam and Korea who are learning Chinese here.

Sample Contract
 
1.    Party A Institute at Yanjiao wished to engage the service of Party B          as an English teacher. The two parties, in a spirit of friendly cooperation, agree to sign this contract and pledge to fulfill conscientiously all the obligations stipulated in it.
2.    The period of service will be from October 8th, 2008 to June 7th , 2009
3.    The duties of Party B
Party B will be expected to teach English for 18 hours per week (one semester lasts for 16 to 17 weeks)
Party B’s monthly salary will be 6000 Yuan RMB, 70% of which can be converted into foreign currency monthly.
4.    Party A’s Obligations
1) Party A shall introduce to Party B the laws, decrees and relevant regulations enacted by the Chinese government, the Party A’s work system and regulations concerning administration of foreign experts.
2) Party A shall conduct direction, supervision and evaluation of Party B’s work.
3) Party A shall provide Party B necessary working and living conditions.
4) Party A shall provide co-workers.
5) Party A shall pay Party B’s salary regularly by the month.
5.    Party B’s Obligations
1)    Party B shall observe the laws, decrees and relevant regulations enacted by the Chinese government and shall not interfere in China’s internal affairs.
2)    Party B shall observe Party A’s work system and regulations concerning administration of foreign experts and shall accept Party A’s arrangement, direction, supervision and evaluation in regard to his/her work. Without Party A’s consent, Party B shall not render service elsewhere or hold concurrently any post unrelated to the work agreed on with Party A.
3)    Party B shall complete the tasks agreed on schedule and guarantee the quality of work.
4)    Party B shall respect China’s religious policy, and shall not conduct religious activities incompatible with the status of an expert.
5)    Party B shall respect the Chinese people’s moral standards and customs.
6.    Revision, Cancellation and Termination of the Contract
1)    Both parties should abide by the contract and should refrain from revising, canceling, or termination the contract without mutual consent.
2)    The contract can be revised, canceled or terminated with mutual consent.. Before both parties have reached an agreement, the contract should be strictly observed.
3)    Party A has the right to cancel the contract with a written notice to Party B under the following conditions:
a.     Party B does not fulfill the contract or does not fulfill the contract obligations according to the terms stipulated, and has failed to amend after Party A has pointed it out.
b.    According to the doctor’s diagnosis, party B cannot resume normal work after a continued 30-day sick leave.
4)    Party B has the right to cancel the contract with a written notice to Party A under the following conditions:
a.     Party A has not provided Party B with necessary working and living conditions as stipulated in the contract.
b.    Party A has not paid Party B as scheduled.
7.    Breach Penalty
When either of the two parties fails to fulfill the contract or fails to fulfill the contract obligations according to the terms stipulated, that is, breaks the contract, it must pay a breach penalty of US $ 500 to $2000 (or the equivalent in RMB).
If Party B asks to cancel the contract due to events beyond control, it should produce certifications by the department concerned, obtain Party A’s consent, and pay its own return expenses; if Party B cancels the contract without valid reason, it should pay its own return expenses and pay a breach penalty to Party A.
If Party A asks to cancel the contract due to events beyond control, with the consent of Party B, it should pay Party B’s return expenses; if Party A cancels the contract without valid reason, it should pay Party B’s return expenses and pay a breach penalty to Party B.
8.    The appendix of this contract is and inseparable part of the contract and has equal effect.
9.    This contract takes effect on the date signed by both parties and will automatically expire when the contract ends. If either of the two parties asks for a new contract, is should forward its request to another party 90 days prior to the expiration of the contract, and sign the new contract with mutual consent.
Party B shall bear all expenses incurred when staying on after the contract expires.
10. Arbitration
The two parties shall consult with each other and mediate any disputes which may arise about the contract. If all attempts fail, the two parties can appeal to the organization of arbitration for foreign experts’ affairs in the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and ask for a final arbitration.

Appendix
1. Party A provides Party B a free furnished apartment with a bedroom, a living room, a bathroom, a kitchen and a front balcony. In this apartment, a computer with Internet access, sets of bedding, air-conditioning, color TV, refrigerator, washing machine, hot water shower, telephone, microwave ovenstove with gas and basic cooking utensils are provided.
2. Party A provides 2,200 RMB for one year as travel allowance, 5,000 RMB for one year as international airfare allowance.
Party A buys a 400,000 RMB life and emergency medical Insurance.
3. Party B receives the salary on the 4th day of each month. If that day is weekend or holiday, Party B will get the salary at the following workday. In case the time is shorter than a whole month, the payment shall be counted by day. The daily wage shall be 1/30 of the monthly salary (the same with February).
4. Party B receives the travel allowance and international airfare allowance at the end of the contract.
5. Party A arranges to go to Beijing airport to meet Party B when Party B comes here to teach. Party A arranges to send Party B to Beijing airport or railway station when Party B completes his/her contract here.
6. Party B has two days off on Christmas Day (Dec.25th, 26th) as well as all public holidays in China.
7. Party B under one academic year contract is entitled to a four week paid winter or summer vacation.
8. Party B attends routine academic meetings with teachers in the International Diploma Business Program in order to exchange teaching experiences and methods etc. Party B has three office hours per week to answer students’ questions.
9. Party B has classes according to schedule and arrives there on time. Party B is strict with students and exchange ideas with them concerning teaching issues regularly. If any problems concerning teaching and studying arise, please inform of the International Cooperative Center and the department concerned in time.
10.    Party B’s sick leaves and private affairs leaves shall be approved by International Cooperative Center or the department concerned. Party B should make up for the lost lessons thereafter. If the sick leaves amount to 30 days within one contract term (one semester or one academic year), Party A has the right to terminate the contract. In the contract term (one semester or one academic year), the private affairs leaves should not exceed 10 days. The continuous private affairs leave shall be no more than 3 days, and two days’ salary will be deducted for each day thereafter. In case of absence from work without Party A’s permission, 3 days’ salary will be deducted fro each day absent. For serious circumstances, Party A has the right to terminate the contract and investigate Party B’s liability for violation of the contract.
11.    The probation period of Party B is 30days. If Party A finds out that the employed party is unfit for the assignment specified in the contract for the reasons of health or professional ability, it has the right to terminate the contract.
12.    Confirmation and change of every term of the appendix of the standard contract must be stipulated in written form through negotiation between the two parties. Any oral agreement will be regarded as invalid.
13.    This appendix has equal validity of the standard contract and comprises an integral part of the contract.

International Airfare (RMB): 7,000 per year, 4,000 per semester on completion of the contract
