The origin of This University can be traced back to Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) founded in 1920. In 1958, the Department of Heavy Machinery of HIT and its related specialties moved to the strategic industrial town of Fulaerji, Qiqihar in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, there to be renamed the School of Heavy Machinery of HIT.
In 1960, the school became independent as the Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute, and in 1978, she was accredited as one of the eighty-eight national key institutions of higher learning. She began to relocate southward in the historic resort city of Qinhuangdao from 1985, and completed the process in 1997 when she was ratified by the former State Education Commission and adopted the present title of This University (This University).
The This University campus covers an area of 5,000 mu (or 330 hectares) with a total construction area of nearly 1,000,000 m2. At present, the university has 2,700 faculty and staff members, of whom 1,700 are teachers. Among the teachers are 309 full professors (including 101 doctoral supervisors) and 363 associate professors. The university has a student population of 34,000.
This University has three postdoctoral research stations, six first-class disciplines with the authority of conferring doctoral degrees, thirty-five second-class specialties conferring doctoral degrees, thirteen first-class disciplines conferring master degrees, eighty second-class specialties conferring master degrees, thirteen master of engineering programs, one Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, one Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, as well as sixty undergraduate programs. With these wide ranging programs, This University has taken shape as a multiversity with an emphasis on engineering studies, and with equal attention to liberal arts, sciences, economics, management, law and education.
This University consists of eighteen schools and one independent department. In specific, the university is known for its excellence in the development of whole-set heavy machinery and equipment, parallel robots, the technology of fluid transmission and electric liquid servo control, the technology and equipment of precision plasticity figuration, thermal treatment of big forging, the technology of mega amorphous bodies, metastable materials and technology, industrial automation, and so on. This University has won a total of 13 state scientific awards since 1996, two first class, eight second class and two third class for State Science and Technology Improvement Awards, and one second class for State Technology Invention Award. The university is responsible for program of 973 and program of 863 as well as 150 other programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation. In 1999, This University established her science park in the Qinghuangdao Economic and Technological Development Zone. The park was officially ratified by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education as a National University Science Park in September 2003, and became one of the thirty-four university science parks of the nation.
The university also attaches importance to international academic exchange and cooperation and has conducted joint programs with institutes and institutions from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, South Korea, Japan and other nations.

Sample Contract
After a friendly talk between This University (Party A) and he two parties, have agreed to the following provisions for implementation during the period of this contract.(Party B) ,t
Ⅰ Teaching assignment
1. The teaching assignment is 5 months. The teaching time will be 16 hours per week on average.
2. During teaching period based on the requirement of academic calendar the total hours of one week be over 16 hours in certain period of one semester. Party A will make sure that the total hours of one week will be no more than 16 hours on average during teaching assignment of 5 months.
3. Party A will make every effort to assign course to Party B that continues for one entire semester. If classes end early, Party A will try to avoid re-assigning new classes to Party B for the remainder of the semester. Under request, Party B should undertake public lectures or other required forms of academic activities to compensate the remained teaching hours.
4. Work undertaken shall be completed with excellence according to an agreed upon schedule by the two parties. Party A reserves the authority to inspect Party B’s class teaching by certain methods such as audit, questionnaire to students, etc.
Ⅱ Finance arrangement
Finance arrangement is categorized as direct payment and indirect payment.
1. Direct payment
1.1 Salary Salary is 3400RMB /month after tax. The salary will be paid monthly with RMB from the day of starting work. The full monthly salary will be paid by the 15th of each month, beginning on September 15th and continuing through the end of the second semester. Party B will receive a salary for a period of not less than ten months. In case the time is shorter than a whole month, the payment shall be counted by day. The daily wage shall be 1/30 of the monthly salary (the same with February). No more than 70% of the salary can be changed into foreign currencies monthly. Party B shall pay the personal income tax in accord with the Personal Income Tax Law of the People's Republic of China.
1.2 Travel Allowance – Travel Allowance shall be offered to Party B. The travel allowance will be 3600. Half of the travel allowance will be paid prior to the end of the first semester. On condition that Party B fulfills the duties of a complete academic year, Party A will pay the other half travel allowance. Teachers who teach for one semester are entitled to one half of the travel allowance. If a teacher comes for the second semester, they are entitled to one half of the travel allowance.
1.3 Natural gas fee The university will reimburse natural gas fee for the teacher who has fulfilled the duties of a complete academic year.
1.4 Overweight luggage allowance Overweight luggage allowance will be offered to the teachers who has fulfilled the duties of a complete academic year and do not renew his/her contract. S/he will be entitled to a maximum of 800 yuan overweight luggage allowance provided by Party A.
2. Indirect payment
2.1 The Apartment Party A will provide an apartment for free to Party B. Party A will guarantee the fundamental living conditions for Party B on Yanda Campus. Party B is required to comply with the related accommodation regulations. Party B is not allowed to live outside campus without permission.
2.2 Accommodation Time: Party B can move into the apartment from the starting date of the contract, if not renewing his/her contract, party B must move out of the apartment no later than July 15.
2.3 Facilities Party A will provide well furnished apartments with bedding, telephone, television, refrigerator, toilet, heating and cooling facilities, etc and pay for all utilities and maintenance fees.Party B is only responsible to pay for the Internet fee, telephone fee including the long distance and local use fees.
2.4 Injury Insurance Party A will provide accidental injury insurance to Party B. Both of the two parties will follow the insurance terms, if accidental injury happened to Party B.
2.5 Medical Care Party B is required to have his/her own medical insurance before coming into the school. If Party B has not his/her medical insurance after starting of the contract, Party B must get one medical insurance covering his contract period. Party A can assist Party B in getting the medical insurance, all the cost will be covered by the Party B.
2.6 Airfare Party A will provide a round trip ticket (international economy class air ticket for the nearest distance between the teacher’s home point and Beijing or the point of entry in China as determined by the university) for teachers who have completed the teaching workload. Upon requests, Party A can also give Party B RMB in cash equal to a minimum of 80% of the value of the airfare in lieu of a ticket.
2.7 Transportation Privilege Party A will arrange travel from Beijing to Yanda campus for new coming teachers. And the cost will be the responsibility of the university. Teachers who has fulfilled the duties of a complete academic year and do not renew his/her contract are entitled with car travel from the campus to Beijing. The university will cover the cost. The university will assist the Party B’ mid-year and year-end travel to and from China upon request, but the cost will be the responsibility of Party B.
2.7 Other Fees Party A will assist Party B in obtaining the legal visas and other necessary documents for his/her coming.
After Party B’s arrival, Party A will secure and pay for the teacher’s Foreign Expert Certificate and Residence Permit.
The deposit for Foreign Expert Certificate and medical exam fee will be the responsibility of Party B.
Party A will assist the teacher in obtaining the legal exit and reentry visas and other necessary documents for Party B’ mid-year and year-end travel to and from China. Party A will pay for the re-entry visa for extending teachers. The teacher will pay for the mid-year re-entry visa.
Ⅲ Work Time, Rest and Holidays
1. Party B is entitled to the following holidays and festivals in China:
New Year's Day, Spring Festival, Labor Day, National Day and other holidays stipulated by laws and regulations.
Party B is entitled to the following festivals and holidays corresponding to their nationalities and religions:
One day for thanksgiving, one day for Christmas, three days for Corban, one day for Lesser Bairam and one day for Water-splashing Festival. Party B does not need to compensate for this, but Party B needs to inform the concerned college and students in advance.
2. Party A will pay teachers a salary higher than that normal work time according to legal standard if overtime work for the university is arranged.
Ⅳ Sick leave and private affairs leave
1. Certificate from doctors for foreigners appointed by the university should be presented when Party B asks for sick leave. If the sick leaves amount to less than 30 days within the contract term (one academic year), Party B shall be paid with 100% of the salary. In case the leaves exceed 30 days, the university has the right to terminate the contract, or, if the contract is not terminated, the salary will not be paid until the normal work is resumed.
2. Private affairs leave of Party B shall be approved by the university. The university will deduct the salary by day. In the contract term (one academic year), the private affairs leaves should not exceed 10 days. The continuous private affairs leave shall be no more than 3 days, and two days' salary will be deducted for each day thereafter.
3.In case of absence from work without Party A's permission, 3 days' salary will be deducted for each day absent. For serious circumstances, the university has the right to terminate the contract and investigate the liability of the teacher for violation of the contract.
4. During contract term (one academic year), If Party B leaves Qinhuangdao to the others places, Party B should inform the International Cooperation Division of his/her leaving in proper written forms or email. So that Party A can contact Party B in case of emergency.
Ⅴ The Probation period of the Contract
The probation period of Party B shall be 60 days. In the probation period, if Party A finds out that Party B is unfit for the assignment specified in the contract for reasons of health or professional ability, it has the right to terminate the contract.
Ⅵ Confirmation and change of every term of the appendix of the contract must be stipulated in written form through negotiation between the two parties. Any oral agreement will be regarded as invalid.
Ⅶ This appendix has equal validity of the contract and comprises an integral part of the contract. This appendix is in duplicate, in the Chinese and English languages, both texts being equally authentic.
