This University, which is founded in 1958, is the sole Integrity University for Nationalities in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and featured with regionalism and national characteristics. This University is situated in Tongliao, a city known as the “Pearl in the Grassland” in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It’s under the jurisdiction of the regional government and its competent department is the regional Educational Department.
The university occupies a land of 1.45 million square meters and the constructed building area is about 5 hundred thousand square meters. There are 1628 workers and staff members in the University. Over 900 of them are full-time teachers including 384 professors and associate professors. The university has a batch of foregoer who is affected on the field of Mongolian, Mongolian medicine and Theoretical Physics in the world. There are 41 tutors who are full-time or part-time to teach Doctors and Masters, 25 of whom are experts enjoying special allowance provided by the autonomous government and the State Council. 8 people are selected as members of the “321 project” of the Autonomous, enjoying first-class and second-class treatment. Among the teaching staff, 237 have obtained Doctor’s degree and Master’s degree. There are 16394 undergraduates and junior college graduates, 230 postgraduates, 113 foreign students and over 17000 registered adult students in the University.
There are 18 colleges and a teaching and research section of Marxism and Leninism in the University. 18 colleges Include: 
Humanities, Politics and Law and History, Educational Science, International Exchange, Mathematics and Computer, Physics and Electro mechanics, Chemistry, Mongolian Medicine, Clinic Medicine, Agriculture, Animal, Mongolian, Physical Sports, Foreign Language, Arts, Adult Education and Vocational Technology. It also has a library, an analysis and test centre, a net-centre, an editorial department of journal a rear service company and 2 hospitals attached to it. Its scientific research institution consists of 11institutes: World History, Horqin Culture, Condensed State Physics, Computational Physics, Arable Farming, Seeds and Mongolian Medicine.
There are 41 specialties available for general education and 11 specialties available for vocational and technical education. They cover arts, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, history, law, education, and management. The university is now entitled to issue Master's degree, recruit overseas students and invite foreign teachers. Now 7specialities in it have been admitted to enroll postgraduates; 4 subjects of the university have been placed into the key subjects at the provincial level, and 3 courses have been playing an exemplary role in the autonomous region. Its journal is publicly issued in 6 editions at home and abroad.
The University maintains Teaching and Scientific Research and puts priority on both, meanwhile; it tries hard to afford several of Scientific Project, whatever from country or the autonomous, and eventually gets a significant result. The achievement which is famous in the world including: Mongolian, Mongolian Medicine, History, Animal and Agriculture and formed in sharp contrast in nationality.
The Net-centre of Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities has entered Chinese Education Research Net (CERNET) and combines with the Internet. The Library is one of the largest books and information centers in the eastern of the autonomous, and is a grade-2 unit of document retrieval for Chinese academic periodical journals. It comprises over 800000 volumes and more than 1800 domestic and foreign journals. A data bank of disk and network has been set up in the library .The large-scale electronic reading-room opens to the students every day. It has the first-grade multifunctional recreation and sports centre and Olympic centre. It’s bounded to fit holding some recreation and sports here. The Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities carry out foreign exchange and cooperate positively. It has founded cooperation and communication touch early or late with the high school of America, Japan, Mongolia, Russia, Korea, sent to visit
ors and exchange students. The University also has set up cooperation with some famous University internal like: Beijing University, Qinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Language University, Nankai University, Jilin University, Science and Engineering of eastern China, Shenyang Medicine University, Shenyang Agriculture University.
