BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO This University

 This University, formerly Southern Institute of Metallurgy, was established in 1958. On June 6, 2004, ratified by the State Education Commission, it was renamed as This University. It was initially subordinated to the former State Metallurgical Ministry and subsequently to the former China National Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation (CNNC). Since September 1998, the university has been under the jurisdiction of both the Central government and the Jiangxi Provincial government, mainly under the administration of the latter.

   
   

This University is a comprehensive university of multi-disciplines, focusing on Engineering and integrated with economics, sciences, law, arts, management and education. A wide range of programs are offered at This University, including full-time undergraduate programs, postgraduate programs, higher vocational & technical education programs, and part-time higher adult education programs. The students of This University have been enrolled nation-widely since its establishment. In the early 1998, This University was conferred the qualification by the State Education Ministry to enroll the students from HongKong, Macao, Taiwan, and the oversea Chinese. At present, the total enrollment of students at This University is over 20,000, among which the enrollment of full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students exceeds 12, 000. The teaching staff and administrative staff total more than1, 5 00.

With a total area of 330 acres, This University consists of four campuses, namely Main Campus, Jinshawan Campus, West Campus and Nanchang Campus. The Main Campus, Jinshawan Campus and West Campus are all located in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. It is bordered on the east by Fujian province and on the south by Guangdong province. Transportation is convenient as Beijing-Kowloon railway passes through the city. It also boasts scheduled flight to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, etc. Ganzhou is a famous historical and cultural city. The city is beautiful and lively with trees and flowers. Continuously, it has been granted the National Civilized and Clean City. Covering an area of 90 acres and with student enrollment of 12, 500, the Main Campus is situated in the downtown of Ganzhou. Occupying an area of 160 acres and with 3, 000 students, Jinshawan Campus lies in the southern suburbs of Ganzhou. The West Campus lies in the western suburbs of the city. Holding an area of 30 acres, it is still under construction and will be a new campus for all the full-time undergraduate freshmen of the main campus from September 2003. Both Jinshawan campus and West campus are only 10 minutes ride by bus from the main campus.   Taking up an area of 50 acres, Nanchang Campus is situated in the northern suburbs of Nanchang City – the Capital City of Jiangxi Province. With 3, 500 students, Nanchang Campus focus on higher vocational and technical education.

Jiangxi province is rich in nonferrous mineral resources, such as tungsten, rare-earth, tantalum, copper, uranium. Ganzhou prefecture is also known as “the capital of tungsten” and “the kingdom of rare-earth”. Located in such a beautiful and fertile area, This University has been branded with the character of nonferrous metallurgical industry ever since its founding.

This University boasts 11 schools, i.e. School of Environmental & Construction Engineering, School of Material & Chemical Engineering, School of Mechanical & Electronic Engineering, School of Information Engineering, School of Sciences, School of Economics & Management, School of Arts & Law, School of Foreign Languages and Foreign Trade, School of Applied Science (Jinshawan Campus), School of Higher Vocational & Technical Education (Nanchang Campus), and School of Continuing Education.

As the university develops rapidly, This University involves itself more and more frequently in academic exchanges at home and abroad, and invites well-known experts and scholars to visit This University or give lectures. Meanwhile, This University also organizes some teachers to participate in academic international conferences of all levels, and send some backbone teachers to study or work as visiting scholars abroad. In the past 15 years, This University has established cooperative relationship with universities and research organizations in many countries such as USA, Germany, Thailand, Japan, Finland, UK and France. This University look forward to undertake academic exchange with more and more foreign institutions in the new century.

Since 1986, foreign teachers have been invited to teach undergraduates majoring in English and postgraduates in our university, at least two each year. In recent years, with the sharp increase of students, more foreign teachers are needed. There are 10 foreign teachers worked in the campuses in 2005-2006. We plan to invite 10 foreign teachers to teach English in the three campus of Ganzhou next academic year. We have provided them with comfortable and well-equipped working and living conditions. We warmly welcome foreign friends to teach in This University.

CONTRACT

.Party A This University wishes to engage the service of Party B __  as English Teacher.

The two parties, in a spirit of friendly cooperation, agree to sign this contract and pledge to fulfill conscientiously all the obligations stipulated in it.

Ⅱ.The period of service will be from the       day of       to the    day of     .

Ⅳ.Party B’s monthly salary will be ¥   yuan RMB.

Ⅴ.Party A’s Obligations

1.     Party A shall introduce to Party B the laws, decrees and relevant regulations enacted by the Chinese government, the Party A’s work system and regulations concerning administration of foreign experts.

2.     Party A shall conduct direction, supervision and evaluation of Party B’s work.

3.     Party A shall provide Party B necessary working and living conditions.

4.     Party A shall provide co-workers.

5.     Party A shall pay Party B’s salary regularly by the month.

Ⅵ.Party B’s Obligations

1.     Party B shall observe the laws, decrees and relevant regulations enacted by the Chinese government and shall not interfere in China’s internal affairs.

2.     Party B shall observe Party A’s work system and regulations concerning administration of foreign experts and shall accept Party A’s arrangement, direction, supervision and evaluation in regard to his/her work. Without Party A’s consent, Party B shall not render service elsewhere or hold concurrently any post unrelated to the work agreed on with Party A.

3.     Party B shall complete the tasks agreed on schedule and guarantee the quality of work.

4.     Party B shall respect China’s religious policy, and shall not conduct religious activities incompatible with the status of an expert.

5.     Party B shall respect the Chinese people’s moral standards and customs.

Ⅶ.Revision, Cancellation and Termination of the Contract

1.     Both parties should abide by the contract and should refrain from revising, canceling, or terminating the contract without mutual consent.

2.     The contract can be revised, canceled, or terminated with mutual consent. Before both parties have reached an agreement, the contract should be strictly observed.

3.     Party A has the right to cancel the contract with a written notice to Party B under the following conditions:

(1) Party B does not fulfill the contract or does not fulfill the contract obligations according to the terms stipulated, and has failed to amend after Party A has pointed it out.

(2) According to the doctor’s diagnosis, Party B cannot resume normal work after a continued 30 days sick leave.

4.     Party B has the right to cancel the contract with a written notice to Party A under the following conditions:

(1) Party A has not provided Party B with necessary working and living conditions as stipulated in the contract.

(2) Party A has not paid Party B as scheduled.

 Ⅷ.Breach Penalty

   When either of the two parties fails to fulfill the contract or fails to fulfill the contract obligations according to the terms stipulated, that is, breaks the contract, it must pay a breach penalty of US $500 to 2,000 (or the equivalent in RMB).

   If Party B asks to cancel the contract due to events beyond control, it should produce certifications by the department concerned, obtain Party A’s consent, and pay its own return expenses; is Party B cancels the contract without valid reason, it should pay its own return expenses and pay a breach penalty to Party A.

   If Party A asks to cancel the contract due to events beyond control, with the consent of Party B, it should pay Party B’s return expenses; if Party A cancels the contract without valid reason, it should pay Party B’s return expenses and pay a breach penalty to Party B.

 Ⅸ. The appendix of this contract is an inseparable part of the contract and has equal effect.

 Ⅹ.This contract takes effect on the date signed by both parties and will automatically expire when the contract ends. If either of the two parties asks for a new contract, it should forward its request to another party 90 days prior to the expiration of the contract, and sign the new contract with mutual consent.

 Party B shall bear all expenses incurred when staying on after the contract expires.

 Ⅺ.Arbitration

   The two parties shall consult with each other and mediate any disputes which may arise about the contract. If all attempts fail, the two parties can appeal to the organization of arbitration for foreign experts affairs in the State Bureau of Foreign Experts and ask for a final arbitration.

 CONTRACT   APPENDIX

 I. The duties of Party B

1. The teaching load in a week is 16-20 hours plus English Corner.

2. Party B shall be serious in lesson-preparing, lecturing, homework-correcting and English-coaching after class.

3. Academic lecture for the students or teachers is to be delivered once each semester upon the request of Party A.

II. Other benefits for Party B

1. Free lodging on campus (a fully furnished apartment with bedroom, sitting room, bathroom, toilet, kitchen, in which computer, TV, DVD, telephone, air-conditioner, refrigerator, washing-machine and cooking utensils are well equipped with.)

2. Free electricity, gas and water

3. Free access to internet

4. Salary paid for winter vacation

5. 2,200 yuan RMB as Travel Subsidy

6. Maximum 10,000 Yuan RMB can be reimbursed as Air Fare for an academic year (plane tickets are necessary for reimbursement)

7. The same health benefits as what we offer to the domestic teachers

8. Holidays: 2 days off for Christmas Day, the others same as the domestic teachers

9. Picking-up arranged upon arrival in China
