Introduction of This University
Established in 1958,This University is the only higher institution focusing on undergraduate education in the field of finance and economics in Gansu, Qinghai and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
This University campuses cover more than 1300 mu, with a total building area of 330,000 square meters. The library occupies 18,000 square meters and has a substantial collection of 785,000 books. The total value of teaching facilities and equipment is 36,408,200 RMB. This Universityhas an excellent teaching staff of 1141 people. There are 666 professional teachers, including 246 professors and associate professors, and 270 teachers with a Doctorate or Master’s Degree. Among them, 18 teachers have won the title of experts awarded by the central or provincial governments, 2 have received the Talent-Aid Program from the National Department of Education, and 20 have been appointed as cross-century pioneers in the academic specialties in Gansu Province. This Universityenrolls students from all parts of China. At present, there are over 10,000 full-time undergraduates, over 300 postgraduates and more than 6,000 adult students.
This University consists of 13 schools, which are the School of Economics & Trade, the School of Finance & Trade, the School of Industrial & Commercial Management, the School of Accounting, the School of Statistics, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Agricultural & Botanic Economic Management, and the School of Adult Education. There are 6 additional departments that serve as the aid for teaching and research work. They are the Modern Educational Techonology & Information Centre, the Economics Research Centre, the Higher Education Research Centre, the This UniversityJournal, the Library, and the Gansu Winter Wheat Research Centre. There are also 11 research centers, namely, the Financial & Business Research Centre, the Environment & Ecology Research Centre, the Western Economy Development Research Centre, the Statistic & Survey Centre, the WTO Research Centre, the CPA Training Centre, the Stock Investment Research Centre, and the Market Consulting & Planning Centre.
At present, This University has the first-class disciplines of Applied Economics Master Programs and 16 Master’s Degree Awarding programs. The 4 provincial-based key disciplines are Statistics, Accounting, International Trade, Finance and Business. Centering on Economics, Management, Law, Humanities, Science and Engineering, so far This University offers more than 50 specialties and programs. Additionally, This University has obtained the qualification of granting Associate Professorship and of nurturing MBA education.
In recent years, This University has deepened the reform, quickened the development, strengthened the management of the teaching staff and administration. Now it has promoted its quality education and established its vital status in the Northwest as an education centre for the nurturing of advanced and multiple talents.

Specialty Development
This Universityhas implemented the “Five Excellence Project”, namely, “excellent teacher”, “excellent specialty”, “excellent discipline”, “excellent curriculum”, “excellent teaching material”. Meanwhile This Universityis promoting the basic rules of specialty development: “Overall planning, Key project priority, Cross-specialty development and Internal construction”; and enforcing the policy of “We have what others don’t, we offer better what those who do have, we provide the best of all the others.” With the adjustment of specialty structure, This Universityemphasizes on academic team building, bases on the foundation of scientific research, and aims at the nurture of advanced level talents. It also focuses on the key subjects and basic theoretical subjects, gives supports to the humanity social subjects, expands the new subject types and cross-specialties to promote distinctive features and build up a scientific subject construction system. This Universityhas achieved such outstanding success in the Specialty Development that it now owns the first-class disciplines of Applied Economics Master Programs, 16 Master’s Degree Awarding programs and the qualification for MBA education.
This Universityhas established the educational aim of nurturing talents for practical application, for multi-functions, and for renovation. It has achieved greatly in strengthen the traditional disciplines and developing new ones. Since the “Shi-wu” period, This Universityhas been granted over 40 awards and built up 6 provincially-recognized courses, 18 college-level recognized courses and 8 financial teaching labs.
Scientific Research
This University always attaches great importance to its scientific research. With a clear understanding of its significance and basic position, the school has conducted extensive research activities which are directed at teaching and applied in the Northwest region. A series of successful results with a total of 3,422 scientific activities have been achieved between 2004 and 2006. There are 54 academic books, 88 complied works, 82 academic research programs on the provincial or departmental level, and 3,064 academic papers among which over 300 have been published in such national-based periodicals as SCI, and EI. There are 70 programs awarded on the provincial or department level or even above; and 156 programs for awards in other fields of study. This Universityhas been granted the outstanding research center in Gansu Higher Institutes.
Students Enrollment & Placement
With the implementation of the national policy of students enrollment and of the “Hope Project”, This University adheres to the principle of “Be open, fair and just” and aims to promote the work of student enrollment.
This University attaches great importance to the concept of looking ahead, competition and commitment in enrollment. Meanwhile, it broadens the job-seeking channels by opening instructive courses, publishing job information, and holding job interviews with various personnel departments.
In recently years, the placement of graduates from This University has been ranked among the first three in Gansu Province. The placement rate over the past three years has been 86.7% for graduates in 2006, 98.8% in 2005 and 89.1% in 2004. Thus, This University has been awarded many times for its fruitful work in students’ enrollment and placement.
Exchange & Cooperation
This University promotes a variety of active academic exchange with foreign experts and scholars and explores the manifold cooperation with universities and educational institution abroad. For years, This Universityhas hosted experts and scholars from the United States, Britain, Canada, the Philippines, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Iraq, Ireland, established sister-relationships with Worchester University College in the U. K., Alma University in the U.S.A., Georgia University in the U.S.A., Iowa State University in the U.S.A., Gordon Institute in Australia and Institute de Management Europe-Asie in France, and developed multiple joint education of students. This Universityalso conducted successful training programs with the New Zealand Embassy, and ESEC (Educational Service Exchange with China). Each year, a new batch of teachers as well as students will be sent to the U.S.A., Britain and France to carry out their academic exchange and further study. Now the school has been entitled with the qualification of recruiting overseas students.
