This College was founded in 1958, is one of the colleges under the administration of Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The College is located in Baise, a city 230 kilometers west of Nanning, the capital of Guangxi. The railway line from Nanning to Kunming, an arterial highway and Youjiang River makes Baise very accessible. At present, the College specializes in Medicine, Medical laboratory Science, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nursing Science, Nursing Science (minor in English ), Stomatology, Gynaecology , Public Facilities Administration, Pharmacology and Obstetrics, Diagnostic Image Medicine, as well as Mandarin for international students. It enrolled more than 7,000 students selected from 12 ethnic groups such as Zhuang, Yao, Miao and Han, etc. Medical Laboratory Sciences was the original specialty in Guangxi, the number of the students majoring in the specialty is still unable to meet the needs of the society. While Nursing Science is newly developed in the College with brilliant prospects.
The College is composed of the Campus itself and 3 affiliated hospitals with more than 2,000 sick beds and advanced equipments. Besides, more than 50 teaching hospitals in different areas in Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou offer good facilities to students.
A residential quarter, a teaching area and a sports ground mainly form the College’s present space covering 101,972 square meters. The three areas are located so that they do not interfere with each other. The College comprises 8 departments, 35 teaching and research sections, 11 laboratories, and 11 research institutes. There are 5 teaching buildings, 4 laboratory buildings, a 5000 square meters library collected 460,000 books, a computer center, 7 foreign language labs, a foreign language broadcasting station, and an audio-visual center situated within the teaching area. A gymnasium near the sports ground provides students with an opportunity to do in-door physical exercises. The tree-shaded campus is an ideal place for both teaching and studying.
The number of teaching personnel stands at 541, of which 192 are Professors and Associate Professors and 252 are Lecturers. The spirit of “Being united, vigorous, diligent and creative” is being energetically advocated. To ensure that the graduates are at high level, the College has revised the style of teaching and the content. The aim of which is not only to enrich the students’ knowledge, but also to cultivate the students’ practical abilities and all-round development. The courses are run to make certain that only the competent students graduate. Since the founding of the College, over 10,000 students have graduated. Many of them have made outstanding performances in the field of medicine. The College enjoys high prestige in the area and beyond.
The Journal of This College is published both at home and abroad. The Journal is a window for academic exchange. The College attaches great importance to the exchange of visiting scholars. Also, the College emphasizes scientific research work, and has made considerable headway in anthropology on ethnic groups of southwest China, Chinese herbal medicines, osteology, neurosurgery, cardiovasology and detoxification, etc. Following the policy of “Keeping a foothold in Guangxi, but being orientated to the world and to the future”, the staff of the College is now working hard together on further reforms in an attempt to make the College a higher-class institution facing the new century.
