Introcduction to the
JS993

¡¡¡¡JS993 is one of
the best governmental High school in Jiangsu Province to provide
three years Chinese pre-university program to students whose age
are ranged from 16 to 18. It is a boarding school with about 4000
students and 400 over teachers in the campus. The school was founded
in 1939 and it inherits excellent Chinese traditional culture and
builds up state of the art facilities and modern educational philosophy.
In 2004, the school started to cooperate with the Senior Secondary
Assessment Board of South Australia (SSABSA) and offer students
Australian high school final year program ¨C South Australian Matriculation
(S¡¤A¡¤M) (Australian Year 12). The program provides Chinese students
alternative pathway for tertiary education. Therefore, Chinese students
in this area can acquire more opportunities to study overseas further.
Especially, students who choose to take the Australian Year 12 program,
will gain sound training in English communication and academic preparation
for them to face to future challenge.

¡¡¡¡Changzhou is a beautiful city with
long history. It is a middle size city beside Shanghai ¨C Nanjing
railway and high way with very convenient nett traffic system. It
is about 160 km away from Shanghai and 120 km away from Nanjing.
There are many famous cities around Changzhou, such as Suzhou, Wuxi
and Yellow Mountain. Changzhou has about one million population
with fast growing light industry economy. There is no heavy pollution
here compared with other cities in China and the living environment
is beautiful and comfortable.
S¡¤A¡¤M
Program in China
¡¡¡¡The S¡¤A¡¤M program taught in China is also completely administrated
and supervised by SSABSA as well as S¡¤A¡¤M in Australia, Malaysia
and Singapore. Students complete the program in the school¡¯s campus
and they also sit for the final examinations in the campus.
S¡¤A¡¤M Subjects offered in China:
1. English as a Second Language Studies (ESL)
2. Mathematical Studies
3. Specialist Mathematics
4. Physics
5. Chemistry
¡¡¡¡All subjects selected for Chinese students to study in
the school are approved by SSABSA and the teaching requirements
and curriculum statement adopted are supervised by SSABSA. English
is the teaching media language used. Teachers for S¡¤A¡¤M subjects
are required to have experience in teaching S¡¤A¡¤M or equivalent
level programs. They are also required to be interviewed and approved
by SSABSA.
S¡¤A¡¤M Program
course duration in China:
Based on the current Chinese educational system and the students
competence in English, an 18 month packaged course is offered. The
initial 6 months is a Bridging Course to prepare the Chinese students
for the final 12 month study of the 5 S¡¤A¡¤M subjects in a different
educational system.
Some of the aims of the Bridging Course include:
¡¡¡¡- improving students writing, listening, and oral communication
skills through an English
Intensive course and general English training,
¡¡¡¡- an exposure to SSABSA teaching methodologies, policies and
assessment practices,
¡¡¡¡- a background knowledge of Australian Year 11 in English Studies,
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry,
¡¡¡¡- development of study techniques.
¡¡¡¡English language teachers for the Bridging Course should
be experienced in teaching oral
and listening with at least a TESOL qualification.
¡¡¡¡Teachers for the S¡¤A¡¤M program in China:
All teachers employed for teaching S¡¤A¡¤M in China are required
to be qualified and appointed by SSABSA. This is an essential part
of the quality assurance of the S¡¤A¡¤M program which is to be taught
in China. All teachers are required to have experience to teach
S¡¤A¡¤M or equivalent level programs (A Level, matriculation programs
from other states in Australia, etc.). They are all good in English
command with high School teaching experience and approved teaching
qualifications.
Teaching Assistants (Tutors) are also welcomed to
join the team to undertake marking, student tuition after class
and lessons preparation for ESL, mathematics and science subjects
(science labs preparation, information and study resource searching
through internet, oral / listening teaching materials preparation,
etc.).
Teaching materials:
The S¡¤A¡¤M program in China adopts the same curriculum statements
set by SSABSA and the same textbooks used as Australian year 12
students. All textbooks and teaching materials are directly imported
from Australian publishers.
Final examination
and issue of Certificate:
SSABSA sets the final examination for each subject and supervises
the examination, marking and final student results. Students in
the China S¡¤A¡¤M Program Centre will sit for the final examinations
in November and follow the same examination timetable as Australian
year 12 students.
